Considered living fossils because they originated over 450 million years ago, horseshoe crabs molt until adulthood like this particular one had when it was discovered along the shores of Buzzards Bay in Southern Massachusetts. The armor like shell has been lacquered and painted in order to highlight and preserve its incredible form. Secured upon wood within an antique gold leaf frame from New York.
