Falling Leaves

This curved piece of driftwood was found elegantly burned in the sand dunes of Falmouth, Cape Cod. Thinking it resembled a tree branch, I bent wire and added the brackets to mimic dried leaves falling from a limb.

Burned Cascade

Made with driftwood found on the shores of Plum Island in Newburyport and drill bits from the construction site of the new Media Lab at MIT, this piece symbolizes the horrendous BP oil spill of April 20, 2010. The charred wooden panel mimics the impenetrable blanket of oil smearing its way onto sand while the thin black wood pierces life. The bits are suspended from the wood using coated wire and a brass bead sits at the top of each.
